  • No experience necessary.
  • Not all events will have open auditions, and some parts may be precast.
  • Advanced copies of scripts, lyrics or sides may be available. Contact the show director for more information.
  • Unless noted, auditions will take place at HLT.
  • If a musical with dance numbers, the Choreographer will teach you a dance routine appropriate to the show. Wear comfortable clothes and dance shoes if you have them. Hard-soled rubber or tennis shoes are best if you don’t have dance shoes.
  • Unless otherwise specified, it is not necessary to prepare audition material, i.e., a monologue or song. Most HLT auditions are “cold”.
  • The age of the characters may determine how old you have to be to audition for each show.  Differences are at the sole discretion of the director/production team.
  • Auditions are usually scheduled on several dates. Attending as many sessions as possible will allow you to familiarize yourself with the material. It also gives the production team a chance to gauge how quickly you learn and how well you take direction.
  • Although you may have your heart set on a particular part, be open to other roles. The more you go on stage, the more experience you gain.
  • If after open auditions, the director believes that a particular role or roles cannot be satisfactorily cast, additional actors may be contacted for further auditions.
  • Being invited to audition, either directly or indirectly, does not guarantee you a role.
  • Callbacks will be held if necessary. Only those called back will be telephoned. NOTE: not being called back does NOT mean that you are not cast in the show. Likewise, being called back does not mean you will be cast.
  • Be willing to take offstage positions, such as Stage Crew, dresser or assistant to the sound or light tech. The more you are involved, the more you will learn that will help you with future productions.
  • Offer to be an understudy. Even if you don’t perform the part you will add to your experience and knowledge.
  • Accept that you won’t get every part you go out for, even if you’re perfect for it. The director has a specific vision and has to fit all of the pieces together. That’s theatre – try not to take it personally.
  • If cast, you will be obligating yourself to a significant rehearsal and performance schedule. Please be certain you are willing and able to make this commitment. Shows and dates are subject to change.

OUR HISTORY

From the earliest musical programs of the pioneer residents to the present day Highlands Lakeside Theatre, Sebring has always had a heart for the stage. Theatrical groups such as Mrs. Hatton’s “Little Theatre” in the 1930s and the “Ridge Theatre Guild” in the late fifties to mid sixties kept the theatrical spirit very much alive.

Highlands Little Theatre was organized in 1974 and offered their first production in July of that same year. For the next eight seasons they continued to grow and perform in various locations such as schools, college campuses and the Civic Center.

During those same eight years they formed, carried, and brought to life their dream of having their own theatre home. This dream was realized in August 1982 when they offered their first performance in their new home, the Lakeside Playhouse, where they still perform today.

Improvements continued to be made and in April 2005 a second building, the Drs. Thakkar Pavilion, was dedicated and put into use as a meeting and rehearsal space. In February 2011,after the addition of a stage, control booth and seating, the McCollum Stage inside the Drs. Thakkar Pavilion was dedicated and used for several events. This additional stage allows HLT to offer a larger variety of performances.

In 2019, the name Highlands Lakeside Theatre was adopted as the organization’s business name to differentiate it from other performance venues and to honor the group’s growth.   While still incorporated as Highlands Little Theatre, Inc., it will forthwith be commonly known as Highlands Lakeside Theatre.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Highlands Lakeside Theatre is to provide a venue for community participation in live theatrical production, thereby enhancing the quality of cultural arts in the Highlands County, Florida area.
